INFORMATION NOTES ABOUT OUR CONGREGATION
by the Western and Genesee-Finger Lakes Conferences of the Upstate New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
NEW MEMBERS -- An Adult Inquirer's Class is available two or three times a year for all who are interested in membership or who wish to know more about the teachings and practices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as drawn from the Holy Scriptures. Those who are already members of a Lutheran congregation elsewhere may become members of St. Johns by transfer of membership which is generally processed by the pastor and the church office.
SICKNESS -- Our Pastor is anxious to serve you and to meet your pastoral needs -- especially in times of sickness. Even if hospitals request the name of your church affiliation, they cannot be depended on to contact the pastor or church office. Please let either the Pastor or our church office know when you are in the hospital or ill at home.
ALTAR FLOWERS -- Those who wish to give Altar Flowers may contact the church office for the name and phone number of the person responsible.
MEMORIALS -- St. Johns Memorial Fund is a means of remembering loved ones through monetary contributions to the church. These contributions are used to purchase needed items for St. Johns from the list of suggested Memorials published in the Annual Report. Donors may wish to indicate a specific memorial for their contribution. Memorial envelopes are available in the tract racks and in the church office. They may be requested to be available at the time and place a family may need them. If you have any questions, please call the church office.
Contributions may also be made to the BRIGHTMAN CAMPERSHIP FUND, SHORTZ COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND, or ENDOWMENT FUND. The Brightman Fund is in memory of Kathleen Brightman, a child of the congregation who was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The fund is used to provide camperships to summer church camps, confirmation camp, and occasional youth gatherings or retreats. The Shortz Fund is in memory of Pastor William Shortz and provides college scholarships to applicants from Rochester area Lutheran congregations. Normally only the income of the Endowman Fund is available for current expenses of the church. The goal is to leave the principal is left in tact, so donations made many years ago to the Endowment Fund can continue to work for St. Johns. DEVOTIONAL MATERIALScan be found in the "Tract Racks" located by the entrances into the Sanctuary -- in the front Narthex and in the hall foyer next to the church office.
In our LIBRARY, located in the Fireside room, you will find many more resource books and aids which will be helpful to you and your family.
